Related Links State Library of North Carolina (SLNC) SLNC Digital Information Management Program SLNC Digital Repository Collection Development Guidelines SLNC Digital Repository General Metadata Guidelines About the State Library of North Carolina Digital Repository The goal of the Digital Repository is to support instructional and research needs related to the history and culture of North Carolina by making many of the unique and valuable holdings of the State Library of North Carolina easily accessible via a searchable, online database. To this end, the primary focus of the Digital Repository is on current and historical North Carolina state government information. Various users, including students, businesses, farmers, legislators, local government, and journalists, expect accurate and reliable current and historical state government information to be available and accessible to them. Citizens need current state government information to properly conduct business; provide services; participate in society; and comply with state law; while historical state information has enduring value and significance as a vital source of evidence of government activities and decisions over time and remains an important source of corporate memory for the government and people of North Carolina. Scope of the State Library of North Carolina Digital Repository For the most part, the Digital Repository contains items held in the State Library of North Carolina's physical collection, however, State Library staff sometimes collaborate with other institutions to include additional items in a digital exhibit which are not held by the State Library but complement the featured portions of the collection. In these instances, items that are not held by the State Library may be included in the Digital Repository. Yet, regardless of who physically holds the items, to be included in the Digital Repository an item must meet the State Library's Digital Collection Guidelines and the Preservation and File Format Guidelines. Content may be submitted for inclusion in the Digital Repository either through the State Publications Clearinghouse submission process, if applicable, or through the Digital Information Management Program staff in consultation with other staff at the State Library via . The materials included in the State Library of North Carolina Digital Repository are made available for use in research, teaching, and private study, pursuant to the U.S. Copyright law. The user must assume full responsibility for any use of the materials, including but not limited to, infringement of copyright and publication rights of reproduced materials. Each item in the Digital Repository has a copyright statement included in its description. Please be sure to read these statements as they will identify any restrictions on use.
